The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Peter
Nichols's comedy Privates on Parade won the following awards: Ivor Novello Award for "Best British Musical" of 1977, Evening Standard Drama Award for "Best Comedy of the Year", Clarence
Derwent and Society of West End Theatre (SWET) "Comedy of the Year" awards. Denis Quilley was awarded the SWET for "Comedy Performance of the Year" and Nigel Hawthorne received two awards: the
Clarence Derwent award for "Best Supporting Actor" and
the SWET award for "Actor of the Year in a Supporting
Role".
