Radio Plays

Yes, yes, I know that Hawthorne has done many, many more radio plays than the ones I have listed here! Given time, the list should become more complete...

The most recent radio play Hawthorne recorded was for BBC Radio 4 entitled "Wainewright The Poisoner", in which he played the title role. The play is by Peter Straughan and it is based on Andrew Motion's biography. Plot summary: From a hospital in the penal colony of Tasmania, Thomas Griffiths Wainewright, painter and writer, looks back over his controversial life. Also stars Alex Jennings, Toby Jones and Elizabeth Bell. Sue Roberts directs. It was aired on November 17th 2000.

Another brilliant play is Yuri Rasovsky's "Craven Street," in which Hawthorne starred as Lord Dartmouth in an historic play about Benjamin Franklin in London. The cast includes Elizabeth Montgomery, George Grizzard, David Warner, Michael Sheen and many others. It was published in 1993 on five cassettes by Lodestone Audio Theater.
